1. "if im to receive a promotion of some kind, i hesitate to tell others until it's an accomplished fact."
ReplyDeletethis significant me just because you cant cheer whats not in your hands just because you heared that its going to happen it doesnt mean its yours. many things can go wrong and put your chances out the door. its not offical until your in the position your job told you or any thing in life.
1. "If I'm to recieve a promotion of some kind, I hesitate to tell others until it's an accomplish fact".
ReplyDeleteWaiting for your boss to say "yes you got the pormotion". Then telling everyone you did instead of saying it before hand. This was significant to me because I don't want to tell everyone I got a promotion, and then in the long run I didn't. To everyone I may look like I was lying or being over confident. We have to wait and see and this goes through things throughout life as well.
1. Pick out one quote that was significant to you. Explain it and why it was significant.
ReplyDelete“Stare into a mirrror long enough and its hard not to wonder whether that’s a mask starring back, and if so, who’s really behind it.”
I fell strongly about this text. Looking into the mirror and having to face yourself is a big challenge for people. Wearing a “mask” could mean your are trying to hide who you really are and reveal only what you want people to see. I have been that person before and can definetly relate. I have worn a mask afraid to show my true identity. Weather ain a new career or job or even in a new crowd of people just trying to fit in
1)“They found that women who scored highly also reported a strong desire to show that they could do better than others. They competed harder. By contrast, men who scored highly on the impostor scale showed more desire to avoid contests in areas where they felt vulnerable. The motivation was to avoid doing poorly, looking weak.” I believe there’s always been a struggle between men and women. We as women feel that we have to prove that we can be as strong as a man. That we can work as hard as a man. That we can pretty much do everything a man can. That we don’t have to be treated like a porcelain doll just because we’re women. We want to prove that we can handle anything that gets thrown at us. Men on the other hand they are already considered to be strong therefore there’s no point in proving what’s already been stated. To maintain that they motivate themselves not to look weak in front of the opposite sex.
ReplyDelete2. "i feel my success has been due to some kind of luck."
ReplyDeletethats not true just because you got a promotion or anything good at that time its all about luck remember luck is something you make for yourself its not that your luck its that you worked hard than some people and they choosed you to make better for yourself and the your job.
“Particularly when people think that they might not be able to live up to others views of them; they may maintain that they are not as good as other people think,”
ReplyDeleteThis quote meant something to me because many of us do that just for comfort and just as a cover up. For instance we may read something out loud and say sorry but this may not sound too good and the crowd would say don’t worry about it you will be fine. When in reality you’re covering it up just in case it’s bad at least they will say at least you tried.
2. Pick out one quote that presented an idea you were unfamilar with and attempt to explain it in your own words.
ReplyDelete“ In mild doses, feeling like a fraud also tempers the natural instinct to define one’s own competence in selfserving ways”
This throws me off a little. I think the sentence could be a little clearer. I think what they are trying to say is that, when you feel like a fraud you seem to measure your own competence. Although I still do no understand how you define your own competencer in self serving ways. What exactly is self serving ways?
2. "I can give the impression that I'm more competent than I really am."
ReplyDeleteTo others we can act as if you know it all. We can talk and talk about a subject and in reality know nothing about it. Instead of owning up to it and saying we don't have a clue. Many people do this, so they don't seem dumb or like they didn't do the research.
3. With regard to ideas you were unfamiliar with from the text, how did you approach that information?
ReplyDeleteMy approach of understanding the text I am reading is usually uniformed always in the same way. I read the text completely the first time and than I go back a second time to reread it while I underlined or highlight any words I may not know. I will than either Google it or look in webster’s dictionary for the defination. Once I understand the defination I can understand the text.
3. With the ideas i was unfamiliar with, i approached it by reading the text before it and after it. When doing this I sometimes get a better understanding of what it's trying to say. Also another approach is by asking questions about something I didn't get. In doing so someone else can explain it better for me. These approaches help me throughout different texts.
ReplyDelete4. Why do you think that many people choose to go throughout life without asking for help, even though in the long run it's for their benefit?
ReplyDelete4. Pose one question you have about the text. Then, attempt to answer someone else's
ReplyDeleteIn the article there is a text that states “..But the dread of being found out is hardly always paralyzing.” How would you interput this text? Do you think “phonies” consciously lie to keep up the person they are trying to be?
1)The quote that I choice was the one that says ‘that people who score highly on such scales tend to be less confident, more moody and rattled by performance anxieties than those who score lower. So what I am trying to say is that this got my attention really cause for somebody to say that some examine can make somebody less confident just get’s my nerves why is that for the bad things there’s always a catch if you do something or wear something then your something and if you don’t then you don’t care. Why is that this world makes it seem impossible to be happy on why do they stress that I think they just don’t get tired of making other people feel less than what they are they will lower their self-esteem. So that’s why this quote got my attention stop the disgrace there is in this era.
ReplyDelete2)The quote chose is the one that says “in a world of profound uncertainly, self- serving delusion probably helps people get out of bed and chase their pet projects. What they try to say is that the poor emphasis this country was the so low value people see in the streets with nothing to do and that the people keep losing jobs and don’t really know what to expect of life and their four come they can only toss a dime to see what expects them in later they use their life to make work faster and better they use themselves to wake up and say work the essential of life cause work itself it’s not pushing them to the limit or extreme to be proud of what they do. So that’s why I got this quote that doesn’t really show a lot but has work in it that caught my attention it just gets to me the country has gotten to depressions and has caused people to view life as not secure but as a toss that they don’t want it to fall it’s like protecting their empire that they built and think its impenetrable.
3)Well I approached it like I would approach life and how it comes to me it’s like the reaction of driving a car and the reaction of a fast ball and food the quantity and speed you can use to confront it. It’s like life-span and all that surround all of us it’s how we react to life experiences we don’t just let it pass and life itself passes and we get older and start noticing stuff more and we are more knowledgeable with all. So I approach this quote like I do to something that has caught my interest like to me a guy dribbling the ball in the air without letting it fall for 4 or 5 hours is impossible so I search for it and try to do it. So what I ma trying to say is that this quote was so interesting that it made me think twice to ready it again and again to notice it and say that quote is good and deserves to be examine that’s how I see it they
"I feel my success has been due to some kind of luck."
ReplyDeleteThis statement made it seem as if their life was based on luck and everything has been perfect for them. In reality life has their ups and downs which means that not every day is your best day which is why I don’t think they should think there success is based on luck.
2)“It can be poison when the job calls for expertise and accountability, and expertise is wanting.” I believe it’s trying to say that the job can be stressful when you don’t have the experience and the expertise to well develop yourself fully.
ReplyDelete3)I was unfamiliar with the text itself but after we discussed it in class I had a better idea what it was about. And I was able to participate in the discussion with my classmates. Before when I was confused after reading it twice I started underlining things even though I never got to the ask my question because they were soon answer by the discussion we had in class.
ReplyDelete1.) “In an interview, Dr. McElwee said that as a social strategy, projecting oneself as an impostor can lower expectation for a performance and take pressure off a person –as long as the self-deprecation doesn’t go too far.” This quote states that when we think of ourselves as someone not adequate for a certain task we actually boost our abilities by lowering down the expectation of other people about our capacity. I found this phrase peculiar because I agree with it like a 100%, it has often happen to me that I just say “I don’t think I can do this” or “Ok I’m going to do you the favor but don’t expect anything good”, and when I put hand into matter I actually end up doing a hell of a good job and the third individual (or individuals) feel pleased with my performance.
ReplyDelete3.) Regarding the ideas I found myself unfamiliar with, like the one in the previous question, I think what help me the most to understand it was the group discuss ion. As the class throws ideas to my head and we analyzed them, it all becomes much clearer than trying to dig in into the author’s intention by myself without any kind of feedback from another person. Using a mixture made of the material provided by numerous minds working in conjunct, I came on to several conclusions on ideas that otherwise were impossible to me to decipher, and was able to provide something to that “ball of thoughts”.
ReplyDelete1) I picked this quote “particularly, when people think that they might not be able to live up to others”. I have a friend that thinks that he can’t accomplish his goal that he have many problems and that’s one of the reason that he can’t do it. I told him many times that by practicing and put more effort one can accomplish anything. His goal is to graduate from college but at the same time become a pro in soccer. Even thought he can’t do both at the same time at least he should try to do one that makes him happier. The last thing I told him was that everything but death has a solution.
ReplyDeleteWhen it said: “they’re confident that they can detect liars and forecast grades”. Well one can detect a liar by the way they talked or the face they make when lying. About forecast grades I believe is lucky. People sometimes lie because of their performance or feel shame about something embarrassing that occur to them. Sometimes feeling a lot of confident and then see a bad result makes one go upset. Even thought you did badly at something you want to keep that good expectation that other people have about you.
ReplyDelete4)Why is it that we’re always trying to fool others? Why not just be truthful to ourselves? To answer Tracy's question I believe phonies lie to protect themselves from beign critizes and intimidated by others.
ReplyDelete4) Do you think that and examine really makes a difference in your life, do you think it tells you what you are in any way or matter? Does life itself show the magnitude about which we are that we should use test to prove what we are or are not. What do you think?
ReplyDelete4)Why do we feel fraud and lie about our aspect to the extreme that we exaggerate?
ReplyDeleteI think the reason that we are always trying to fool other is, because we want others to think that we're more intellectual than we really are. We don't like to display that we don't know as much as our peers do. For point being that we're afraid of what others may say. Some of us aren't truthful to ourselves for the fact that we may not want to face the fact that we aren't as knowledgeable of things as we may like. Also we don't like asking for help, for most of us too much pride even though we know it will benefit us in the future.

By contrast, men who scored highly on the impostor scale showed more desire to avoid contests in areas where they felt vulnerable. The motivation was to avoid doing poorly, looking weak.” As a woman i feel that women always work harder, really they do, be a career women,be a wife,be a mom at the same time, we have to prove that we can do it by our self, As a single mom I have a lot of pride and taking that role of being by my self i wanted to prove to all my family and the family of my son father i was able to be by my self and be a mom and have a job and go to school and have a home. I feel yes, men have a big role too but not like women do!
